Do we sell or share your personal information?
No. CheckerVIN does not sell your personal information for money, and it does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising — the two things the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, gives you the right to opt out of. That is a straightforward position to hold because we collect so little in the first place: the VIN or license plate you look up, and the email address where the report is sent. There is no advertising profile to build and no data broker relationship to unwind.
The vehicle data in a report comes from public and licensed vehicle sources — NHTSA’s vPIC database and recall records, and title-history systems where they apply — not from personal directories, and a VIN identifies a vehicle rather than a person. So the personal information at stake here is minimal, and none of it is for sale.
Your rights under the CCPA and similar laws
Whether or not a business sells your data, these consumer rights apply, and we honor each of them:
| Your right | What it means |
|---|---|
| Opt out of sale or sharing | Direct us not to sell your data or share it for cross-context advertising |
| Right to know | Request the categories and specific pieces of personal information we hold |
| Right to delete | Ask us to delete the personal information we collected, subject to legal exceptions |
| Right to correct | Ask us to correct inaccurate personal information we hold about you |
| Limit sensitive information | Restrict use of sensitive personal information to what the service requires |
| Non-discrimination | Exercising any right will not change the service or price you receive |
How to submit a request
There are two routes, and either is valid. Because the only account identifier we hold is your email address, a request from that address is normally all the verification we need.
- 1Email usSend a message to support@checkervin.com with the subject 'Do Not Sell/Share', or naming the right you want to exercise — know, delete or correct.
- 2Or enable Global Privacy ControlTurn on GPC in a supporting browser or extension. We treat the signal as a valid opt-out request, with no email required.
- 3We verify from your emailWe match the request to the address on file. An authorized agent may submit on your behalf with your written permission.
- 4We respond within the statutory windowOpt-outs are actioned within 15 business days; requests to know, delete or correct are answered within 45 calendar days.
Who this page covers
The California Consumer Privacy Act gives California residents these rights, and it is the framework this page is written to. Several other states — Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and Utah among them — have their own consumer privacy laws with comparable opt-out and access rights.
Rather than run a different process per state, we extend the same opt-out, access, deletion and correction route to residents of every U.S. state. You do not need to prove where you live to ask us not to sell your data, because we do not sell it to anyone regardless.
- California residents — full CCPA/CPRA rights as described above
- Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah and other states — the same process applies
- All U.S. residents — one route to opt out, know, delete and correct
- Global Privacy Control honored for every visitor, wherever they are

Frequently asked questions
Does CheckerVIN sell my personal information?
No. We do not sell personal information for money, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We collect only the VIN or plate you look up and the email where your report is sent, which is far less than most sites hold.
How do I opt out of the sale or sharing of my data?
There is nothing being sold to opt out of, but you can still direct us in writing: email support@checkervin.com with the subject 'Do Not Sell/Share'. We also honor the Global Privacy Control signal, which opts your browser out automatically.
What is Global Privacy Control?
Global Privacy Control (GPC) is a browser signal that tells a website you want to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. Enable it in a supporting browser or extension and we treat it as a valid opt-out request under the CCPA.
How long do you take to respond to a request?
We act on opt-out requests within 15 business days and respond to verifiable requests to know, delete or correct within 45 calendar days, as the California Consumer Privacy Act requires. If we need more time on a complex request, we will tell you.
Do I have to live in California to use these rights?
No. The CCPA is a California law, but we extend the same opt-out and access process to residents of every U.S. state, including those with their own privacy laws such as Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and Utah.
